About Hepatitis ACT

Hepatitis ACT is a leading community health organisation committed to eliminating viral hepatitis, improving liver health, and supporting individuals and communities impacted by viral hepatitis. We deliver health promotion, testing, education, peer support, and advocacy across the ACT.

Position Purpose

We are seeking a proactive and creative Communications & Marketing Officer to support the Executive Director & Programs Manager in managing media, communications, and engagement activities. This role is ideal for a skilled communicator who enjoys writing, digital content creation, and stakeholder engagement. You will contribute to awareness campaigns, manage social media, develop publications, and support major events, ensuring that Hepatitis ACT’s message reaches and resonates with key audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate communication and stakeholder engagement strategies that align with Hepatitis ACT’s objectives.
  • Write, edit, and format content for publications, reports, and other communication materials, including coordination of a regular newsletter.
  • Assist with the day-to-day media and communications activities of Hepatitis ACT, ensuring timely and effective messaging.
  • Events coordination, administration and operation including registration, planning, and support on the day.
  • Coordinate and deliver awareness campaigns and related projects, working closely with partners and consultants.
  • Plan and manage social media engagement under the Hepatitis ACT Social Media Strategy, ensuring high-quality content and audience interaction.
  • Draft website content and contribute to the development of digital platforms.
  • Promote major Hepatitis ACT events, including community forums, education campaigns, and World Hepatitis Day, while providing on-the-day event support.
  • Proofread and edit materials to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to the organisation’s style guide.
  • Assist the Executive Director with board reporting and other administrative tasks.
  • Provide technical support, including document formatting and troubleshooting basic IT issues.
  • Maintain a commitment to workplace safety, diversity, and Hepatitis ACT’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on communications tactics, channels, and tools to ensure effective messaging and engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and initiatives, adjusting as required to ensure outcomes are achieved.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related discipline, with at least two years of professional experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, or public relations.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications, public relations or marketing
  • Proven ability to develop engaging and accessible written content tailored for different audiences.
  • Strong proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) with an understanding of digital trends.
  • Experience in website (WordPress) and CRM maintenance (Mailchimp, Zoho).
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and respond flexibly to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan and deliver marketing campaigns
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to working collaboratively within a small team.
  • Full Australian driver’s licence (to support event coordination and stakeholder engagement activities).
  • Have or ability to obtain ACT Working with Vulnerable People Check (WWVPC)
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro) for content creation and design.

Desirable

  • Strong storytelling and creative writing skills.
  • Previous experience in not-for-profit sector
  • Awareness of viral hepatitis, liver health, and related health policies in Australia.
  • Understanding of the Canberra media landscape, including news and social media.
  • Experience working in a community-based organisation or hybrid work environment.
